adidas Initiates Trademark Battle with Nike-Partnered FC Barcelona
Andrei Mincov's commentary on the original article
I have often defended Adidas for enforcing its three-stripes trademark when many thought it was overreaching. This case is the perfect example of why Adidas is often perceived as a trademark bully: there is zero likelihood of confusion here. Adidas's trademark does not confer ownership of everything that has a straight line in it. Come on! Frivolous oppositions like this only weaken Adidas's position in situations when such likelihood of confusion actually exists. On the other hand, this serves as a perfect example that anyone may oppose your trademark, even no sane person would.
