Of course, because the ability to cash in on the brand is never why you'd trademark it. Wait what? Regardless of which party is in the right, this is such a ridiculous argument. You are in settlement negotiations, which is always about an exchange of what you have towards what you want when you're not sure you can force your way into it by law. Beyonce has the money and wants the trademark but she's not sure she would prevail in a full-blown lawsuit. The event planning lady has a claim on the trademark and wants the money but she's not sure she can be awarded anything close to what she's requesting. The event planning lady realizes Beyonce probably wants the trademark more than the event planning lady herself. And therein lies an opportunity. Nothing wrong with that.
