Actually, this is not really what happened. The trademark was filed in the name of a corporation, and a USPTO examiner diligently asked to make sure the corporation is owned by a person with that name or whether the corporation has such person's consent. This is most always a formality. Often, a funny or a curious one. Sometimes, however, it does help stop unlawful appropriation of someone else's name by someone who has nothing to do with it. So from the legal perspective, nothing to see here, but a good lesson to those who are trying to trademark personal names.
