Iceland could clash with Iceland in EU over Iceland trademark

Andrei Mincov's commentary on the original article
I'm sorry to disappoint you if you're shopping for popcorn to watch the next episode of Icexit over this epic trademark battle: Iceland is not a EU member. Which is still fascinating that Iceland, the food store, after 5 oppositions filed in 2004 eventually managed to get the trademark registered in 2014 ( https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/trademarks/002673374 ). Which only shows that you should not rely on the Trademarks Office to reject trademark applications that should by all standards be unregistrable for whatever reason. If you have an interest in using a particular name as your brand, trademark it yourself! At the very least, use a service like Trademark Factory's weekly confusion watch service to catch trademark filings of others while you can still oppose them.
