Not only does Nike's decision make sense from the PR perspective (you don't want to piss off the Navy), it also makes sense from the business perspective. Indeed, why build a brand if you can't own it? Anyone can sell t-shirts and sweatpants. The brand is what makes people buy YOUR t-shirts and sweatpants. If you don't own the brand, what DO you own?
