Trademark News & Screw-ups Peppa Pig trademark repeatedly registered illegally in China

Let's put this into perspective. There are over 50 thousand trademark applications filed in Canada every year. There are over 500 thousand trademark applications filed in the U.S. every year. There are over 5 million trademark applications filed in China every year! To take this even further, there are only 2.2 million active trademarks currently registered in the U.S. TOTAL! In other words, more than twice the number of ALL currently registered U.S. trademarks are being filed in China EVERY YEAR! These numbers are insane. But they kind of explain how certain brands are facing hundreds of trademark applications filed for knock-off brands. The lesson here is that if you have ANY interest in China as a market, you must protect your brand there. ASAP. The second lesson is that even after you trademark your brand in China, you could expect others to attempt to trademark their copycat brands as well.
