Trademark News & Screw-ups Philly Special': Inside the post-Super Bowl rush to trademark Eagles' famed trick play

I'm not usually a fan of people trademarking something they didn't come up with. But this is a perfect demonstration of using trademarks to turn a news story into an opportunity to make a profit. It also demonstrates another principle—anyone could jump on the opportunity, but only a few people did something about it. If their plan works out, they have just made the best investment ever. If they can't get or successfully monetize the trademark, it didn't really cost them all that much. So worth trying anyway. What really fascinates me though are business owners who spend time, money, and energy building their brands and who choose not to protect them.
